I’m running for re-election

I am excited to announce that I am running for re-election to serve as an at-large member of the Raleigh City Council.

In the two terms I’ve served the residents of Raleigh, we’ve made significant progress on some important issues, but there is still work to do to ensure that progress is not rolled back and we continue to move in the positive direction that our growing city requires.

We have taken steps to make housing more affordable and attainable by revising our zoning laws to allow more types of housing in more areas of our city and by partnering with nonprofit housing providers to build low and mixed income housing on city-owned land.

I have worked diligently to reduce car dependency and increase pedestrian safety in our city by giving people more transit options, like the exciting new Bus Rapid Transit lines being designed and built, and dedicated bicycle and pedestrian connections.

I have supported raises and additional benefits for our police and firefighters to compete with other jurisdictions in our area and to retain our already-trained workforce.  And just as important, we approved the creation of an independent crisis response team to assist with issues that don’t require a police response.  In some areas of the city, crime has increased, but we have also seen measurable improvements, so there is more work to be done.

Our parks and greenways continue to be a priority for me.  The parks bond that we proposed, and that voters approved, will expand and create parks in every part of the city which is vital to continue to be one of the best places to live and play.

For all of these reasons and more, I believe I have represented the residents of Raleigh to the best of my abilities.  In the coming months, I look forward to taking my re-election campaign to every corner of the city and earning your trust and your vote.
