Will Seek one of two new seats in the Democratic Primary
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
March 10, 2025
RALEIGH – Raleigh At-Large City Councilor Jonathan Lambert-Melton today announced that he will work to continue moving Wake County forward by running for one of the two newly created at-large seats on the Wake County Board of County Commissioners. Lambert-Melton will seek the Democratic nomination in the March 3, 2026 Primary Election.
Lambert-Melton has served on the Raleigh City Council since 2019 and has also served as Mayor Pro Tem. He currently chairs the Economic Development and Innovation Committee and serves as vice-chair of the Transportation and Transit Committee. During his tenure on the Council, he has led efforts to enhance housing affordability, multi-modal transit options, sustainability, public safety, and equity and inclusion.
“Wake County is a great place to live and work - to raise a family and enjoy our wonderful parks and greenways,” Lambert-Melton said. “I want to continue the hard work required to keep us moving in the right direction. We must continue to make headway to make housing more affordable, fund our public schools, protect our environment, and ensure that our people are safe from crime. This is what is required to continue to recruit the kinds of good jobs that we need to move forward.”
Lambert-Melton has a record of being accessible to his constituents, hosting town hall style meetings throughout the city and posting informative summaries of City Council meetings on his website to give residents a deeper understanding of what the city is doing and why.
“I look forward to meeting the residents of Wake County where they are by attending forums, civic clubs, and hosting my own events where voters can come and ask questions and hear my ideas, Lambert-Melton said.
In 2023, the North Carolina General Assembly expanded the size of the Wake County Board of Commissioners beginning in 2026 by creating two at-large (countywide) positions to join the current seven positions elected by districts.
